Photography E-Portfolios

I have just set up a Edublogs accounts for my GCSE Photography students and a blogroll using Google Reader to view recent up-dates. There is a fair amount to teach them about using the site, but hope that they will start using it more independently after their induction this week. I have embedded a link to the blogroll below:

ISSUU Web 2.0 Publication App

I have been using slideshare for a while now, which I think is a great aweb 2.0 application, however, I was recently referred to ISSUU by Edlinks for Learning- Learning 2.0 for Pakistan. It allows you to create and share online magazines. Here’s a preview:

It could be used by all subjects, but I like the idea of getting art students to publish their work as part of an e-portfolio.

Google Maps

I’ve been trying to work out the best way to use Google Maps to develop international linking projects without using Google Earth, which has a complex interface and might put off students. Instead, I have found it much better to create maps directly in Google Maps and embed HTML in the placemark box using images and videos from other sites such as Flickr and BLIP.TV. It is possible to collaborate within a closed network of people and publish the results. As an experiment, I have set up a map for my department and will be trying out some tests next term with my Year 10 GCSE Photography students adding imagery from the local area.

Has anyone tried to use Google Maps for international linking and, if so, what kind of tasks did you set students?

Embedding Media Tutorial using Screenflow

One of our partner school teachers in Delhi is having trouble embedding video and images into our Edulog site, so I produced this screen flow video:

International Linking Edublogs Site

During our meeting with our Indian partners, we decided that the British Council e-languages site did not provide the best platform for sharing images, video, etc.. so we’ve set up our own edublogs site:

UKIERI London-Delhi Hub School Link

I’d be interested in knowing about other schools with international partnerships and how they showcase the work they do.

Fortismere Podcast Project

Our school currently has links with six schools in Delhi through the British Council’s UKIERI programme. Today, I am running a workshop/conference with a delegation of senior staff from our cluster schools in India and using this sideshow to evaluate our progress so far:

As part of this project, we asked students to create Q&A podcasts. Initially, we asked students from all schools in India and London to exchange questions as audio files and then edit them in audacity or GarageBand to create a podcast. Here is an example of five Q&As:

Animoto Podcast

Our school currently has links with a cluster of schools in Delhi through the British Council’s UKIERI (UK-India Education Research Initiative) programme. At the moment, we are piloting a video podcast project with three school whereby students exchange audio questions (MP3s) and then create a video podcast in response. Here is a basic example:

In the first instance, we swap audio files by posting them to the British Council’s E-Language’s site. Then, the students download the files and edit them using Audacity and/or Garageband. Finally, they must find images to accompany their podcast – Garageband is the best application for video/image podcasting. They seem to enjoy it – I am trying it out on all my Year 9 classes as they deteriorate into post-SAT lethargy.
